All swimmers wishing to join NTSC must participate in a tryout. Tryouts are scheduled in August and March of every year. Tryouts may be scheduled on multiple days, but each swimmer need only attend one day of tryouts.

Notice of our tryouts is posted on our website on August 1st and March 1st of each year. This is the only notice of our tryouts.

This year we are going to be scheduling tryouts in advance, and we are asking you to register for your tryout through our website. We will be organizing tryouts by age and giving each swimmer a chance to work with an NTSC coach. Our goal is to provide each swimmer the maximum opportunity to show his/her skills during their tryout so we can properly match them with one of our practice groups. You will choose your tryout appointment based on the schedule below. Each day will be different so please take care when selecting your tryout time.

In order to be eligible to be considered for a spot on our team, a swimmer must be at least 6-years-old prior to the start of the next season, able to complete 25 yards of freestyle, 25 yards of backstroke, and able to tread water for 1:00 without stopping. Swimmers who can complete the minimum requirements may be asked to demonstrate other skills such as butterfly or breaststroke, competition turns and starts as part of the tryout process. While these skills are not required they help us correctly place the swimmer within our program.

After the tryout, each swimmer will be matched to one of the existing NTSC practice groups and ranked with all other swimmers matched to that group from the tryouts. All available spots in that group will be filled based on the tryout rankings. Swimmers not offered a spot on the team will be put on a waiting list for any spots not filled at new swimmer registration. It is possible that a swimmer with lesser skills will be offered a spot in a practice group while a swimmer with higher skills is not based on the number spots available in each group. A listing and description of each practice group is available on our website. Priority is given to 1) siblings of current NTSC members, and 2) residents of the New Trier High School district in making placements of new swimmers.
