Olympic Trials Update #6

Hard as it is to believe, every night of finals seems to get better and better at this year's trials.  Tonight we got to see Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps go head to head again.  This time in the 200 IM.  For the second time in three races, Phelps came out on top.  Tonight was also the final in the women's 100 Free.  The event was won by Jessica Hardy, with Missy Franklin second.  Finishing 3rd was Amanda Weir.  Many of you may remember meeting Amanda at the 2011 NTSC Tri-State Challenge.  Two more days, and we can't wait to see what happens next.

In NTSC swims today, Max Grodecki swam the 50 Free in 23.65, and Samantha James competed in the 200 Backstroke, finishing in 2:21.55.

Of course, the big news of the day was when Max Grodecki was named to represent the United States at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships later this summer in Hawaii.  Max qualified with his team record swim in the 100 Free on Thursday.  He will join 39 other 18 & Under swimmers in the meet against some of the best swimmers from other Pac Pacific member nations including Australia and Japan.  This is the second year in a row NTSC has had a member of the United States team at the top Junior Championship of the year.  Last year, Reed Malone was among the US team in Lima, Peru for the Junior World Championships.

We have an off day from competition tomorrow, and will wrap up our trials with three swims.  Keep watching!
