
Andrew R Hodgson

Andrew is thrilled to take on the mantle of
Head Coach here at NTSC. Whilst coaching alongside former Head
Coach Bob he helped send 4 members of the group to the 2012 Olympic
Trials as well as placing swimmers on
the 2012 USA Jr Pan Pac Team and USA Swimming National Junior
Teams. Originally from Manchester, England
Andrew has been in America now for 5 years. He previously coached
with Club Seminole in Tallahassee, Florida, where he worked with
age group through to High school aged swimmers writing and running
swimming and dryland practices. Andrew also coached the Florida
State Swim Team middle distance freestylers and backstrokers as a
volunteer assistant during his senior year of
college.
As a Florida State Seminole swimmer Andrew
became a 5-time NCAA All American placing both years he swam at
NCAA’s individually. Andrew won the 200 Backstroke at the ACC
championships during his two years of college swimming. He
currently holds the ACC 200 Backstroke Record, as well as the 200
Backstroke, and 200 Freestyle school records at Florida State.
Internationally, Andrew competed for Great Britain multiple times
at World and European level competitions. He placed 9th at the
European Championships in the 200m backstroke in 2009 and had a
world ranking of 24 at the time of his retirement from
swimming.
Andrew is enjoying bringing his knowledge
of elite level swimming and passion for the sport to New Trier and
has loved having the opportunity to work with all the great coaches
and the swimmers here.

Eric B Peterson
Head AG Coach/Associate Head Coach

Rick grew up in Delaware and
participated in (and loved) all sports, including swimming. He
started coaching swimming with his summer club in his mid-teens. He
attended Bucknell University and received his BA in
Geography, having coached Bucknell’s Men’s
distance swimmers his senior year. The autumn following
graduation he came out to Illinois and became
a Geography, Civics, and American History teacher for 2 years;
one year each at New Trier West and New Trier East. He
also assisted New Trier West’s HS Boys and Girls teams from
1977-81, then was Head Boys coach for New Trier HS from 1982-83
through 1983-84. Additionally, from 1977 through 1986
he was co-Head, then Head Coach of New Trier
West’s Age Group swim program, then served as
co-Head, then Head Coach of New Trier Swim club during the
first four years of it’s existence.
In 1986, having married
a couple years before, Rick left New Trier to
trade full time at the Board of Trade and raise a family. In the
summer of 1988 he rejoined the coaching ranks as a summer swim
coach with the Old Willow Club in Glenview, where he has
coached during summers ever since. In 2001 he rejoined
the staff at New Trier swim club as an assistant, eventually
becoming Head Age Group coach in the spring of 2007.

Gina A Bakakos
Lead Coach, Novice 1-2

Gina Bakakos returned to the north
shore and NTSC in 2006 as an assistant and lead coach to various
groups. Currently, Gina is the lead coach for the Novice 1
and Novice 2 groups. Prior to NTSC, she was the Girls’ Head
Coach and Boys’ Asst. coach for six years at Wm. S. Hart High
School in Newhall, California. She also has been the Head Coach at
Crescenta-Canada Family YMCA in La Crescenta, assistant coach at
Canyons Aquatic Club in Valencia, California and at the Glendale
Family YMCA in Glendale, California. During her time in
southern California, she coached numerous state and league
finalists and champions. She also coached at Green Wave Swim Club
and NTSC in the early 1980’s and 1990’s with Coach Rick
and Coach Dan.
Gina also continues to work at Greeley
School in Winnetka with special education students. A former
New Trier East and U of Tennessee swimmer, she began her
competitive swim career at age 4!
Gina lives in Wilmette with her husband,
Lee, and a menagerie of animals!

Sarah K Erickson
Lead Coach, Pre-Comp 1-2

In her first year as lead coach, Sarah
feels right at home with NTSC. She began swimming for the
club at age 11 and continued through high school. Sarah spent her
first year of college at the George Washington University, before
transferring to Northeastern Illinois University, where she is
currently working on her bachelor's degree. Also, look for Sarah at
your local Starbucks, where she works when not by the
pool.

Jeff M Frydenlund

Jeff started swimming competitively in
Minnesota when he was 13. He competed in both club and High School
where he achieved All State status. After high school he went to
college at Colorado School of Mines where he received a scholarship
to swim and in 1995 graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering.
During his 5th year at CSM he worked as an assistant
coach and helped to lead the team to their first conference
championship in 8 years. He then worked in R&D as an electrical
engineer for three years before realizing that coaching was what he
really wanted to do.
In 1998 he began his club coaching career
in Colorado with North Jeffco Swim Team and then moved to Highlands
Ranch Aquatics. He came to Illinois in 2003 and became the Head Age
Group Coach here at New Trier Swim Club. While here NTSC won the
Illinois Age Group Championships twice and had multiple individual
and relay champions. Following that he accepted the Head Coach
position with Rockford Marlins Swim Club where he guided athletes
to 13 individual Age Group Championship titles and a Illinois state
record in the 10&U Girls 50 Breaststroke. He then became the
Head Senior Coach for Barrington Swim Club. While there he helped
many athletes qualify for Regionals, Age Group Champs, Senior
Champs, Sectionals and NCSA Jr Nationals.
Jeff is excited to be back with NTSC and is
looking forward to helping everyone achieve more than they thought
possible.ýý

Joseph R Jeffers

Joe Jeffers is a former NTSC swimmer who
grew up in Wilmette. He graduated from New Trier High School in
2009, and has studied at Columbia University. He has experienced
swimming at a national level, and has been involved with the swim
club since 2002. He’s spent time as a lifeguard, water polo
player and jazz musician. When he isn’t coaching, he’s
probably listening to music while surfing the internet. His sister
is a recent graduate of Grinnell College and his brother is a
student at New York University. He currently lives in downtown
Chicago.

Elizabeth A Holmes
Lead Coach, Junior

Elizabeth has had an interest in swimming
since the age of 5. She attended Rolling Meadows High School and
swam for Alligator Aquatics growing up. Elizabeth’s
collegiate swimming career began at the University of Denver where
she spent her first 2 years before transferring to Purdue
University and finishing her swimming career as a mid-distance
freestyler/backstroker there. She graduated in 2010 with a
Bachelors degree in Mathematics. Elizabeth started her transition
to coaching during her summers in high school where she coached
locally with the Arlington Heights Park District. She loves working
with children and is very excited to be able to continue to share
her knowledge and passion for swimming with the New Trier Swim
Club.

Mary A Bradbury

Mary
started with the team in September of 2006 and is very excited to
be working with NTSC. Mary started competing at the age of 4 and
remains quite passionate about the sport. Representing Moline High
School in 1989, she won the Illinois High School state title in the
200 free and placed 2nd in the 100 free. Mary swam on full-ride
scholarship at the University of Illinois and was team captain her
senior year. She has been coaching and teaching private lessons to
children and adults for over 20 years and is also a triathlon
coach and owner of Bradbury Fitness LLC.
Mary
is very involved in triathlon. A 4-time World Triathlon
Championship qualifier, Mary has placed 8th in her age twice. In
2010, she decided to tackle the the half-ironman distance for the
1st time and qualified for World Championships and she placed 8th
there as well! But her biggest
loves are her identical twin girls who were born 7/20/07 and her
dog Clayton, who was named after Adam Clayton from
U2

Leah Kathleen Brown

Leah Brown hails from upstate New
York where her competitive swimming career began at the age of 8
(and continued throughout high school). She also worked for many
years as a swim instructor, teaching strokes for people in the pool
ages 6 months to sixty five years! After graduating from the
University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2000, she spent time living in
Connecticut, New York and New Zealand before moving to Chicago.
Upon graduation from the University of Chicago with her Masters of
Social Work in 2005, Leah began working as an elementary / middle
school social worker in Norridge, Illinois. She looks forward to
coaching with the New Trier Swim Club and is excited to be poolside
again!

Eleanor H Bossu

Eleanor is excited to be back at NTSC after
a break to attend grad school in Ohio. She graduated from DePaul
University in 2008. She has coached with Rick for several years and
swam while growing up on the North Shore. She lives in the city and
is happy to be back poolside once again.

Teri K Conklin
Assistant Coach, Jr/Sr Program

Teri Conklin returns to NTSC this year to assist coaching in the
senior program. She began swimming as a 6 year old and went
on to become a state champion her senior year at Glenbrook North
High School. She continued swimming through college at Duke
University where she was captain her senior year and competed in
the ACC Championships. After college she coached swimming for
eight years until 1990. After taking time off to have a
family she has been with the club since 2001. She has also
managed to have a twenty-plus year career with UBS! She has
two children in the NTSC program and her goal is for every swimmer
to post personal best times in their championship meet.

Eliza C Reed

Eliza
is excited to join the New Trier Swim Club coaching staff
this season. Every summer was centered at
a pool, lake, or ocean. Her competitive swimming career started in grade
school and continued through college. In addition to
competitive swimming, she has been a lifeguard and taught swimming to a variety of
age groups. After graduating in 2007 from Principia College,
she continued her studies at
National- Louis University and pursued her Master’s in
Elementary Education. She ventured out to Denver and
taught 4th Grade for 2 years. This past summer she relocated back
to the Chicago area where she
is a substitute teacher for K-8 on the North Shore. She
currently resides in Evanston

Carolyn (Igoe) M Young

Carolyn started coaching with New
Trier Swim Club in the fall of 2006. She actually began her
swimming with the club when she was eight. She continued swimming
at New Trier High School and then at DePauw University. Carolyn
will be assisting in a few different groups this year. She wishes
she could coach more during the year but finds it difficult with
her other job. Carolyn teaches kindergarten as well, she just loves
being with kids! She and her husband Mike (also a former DePauw
swimmer) live in Evanston. Carolyn looks forward to another great
season with the team!
